Hopefully, you know goals are important. You do right? Yet so many often fail to understand the real value and power a goal holds over you.
As visual beings, we need an image if we want to move towards it, where there is no picture we have confusion. Think about it, you cant just recall the colour of your car without first seeing a picture of it. (BTW, you probably just saw a picture of your car right?)
You know the saying, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, but it’s pretty pointless taking any shots if you have nothing to aim at. You must, must, must have a goal!
Sometimes goals don’t even need to be hit, they just need to give you something to aim towards. Quite often this is where the magic happens, you aim at goal or target, and as you work towards that goal something else presents itself and it turns out to be wonderful.
Life is filled with wonderful surprises when you put yourself in a place where you can see them, so I would like to suggest that you do the following 3 things:
1. Get up, go out and explore. Sat in the same place, having the same conversation with yourself or a close-knit group becomes mundane. Really explore, let your marvellous mind roam, this is where the magic happens.
If you’re struggling to find your passions or what you really wish to achieve in life, this is a great way to open up yourself to the universe.
2. Remove all distractions. This could be social media, your phone, your email, colleagues, friends or family, maybe even the pet. Find your safe place, and spend time there ideally once a day, but certainly once a week.
Having this uninterrupted time gives you a real opportunity to figure out whats going on, to plan, to assess your life, it also gives you the opportunity to find out whats not going right and helps to identify what you need to change. I’m a firm believer that 20% of the things you do cause 80% of the problems in your life, find the 20, change the 80.
3. Take action. You deserve it to yourself to live a complete and happy life, so take action to ensure that is what you get. Dedicate time each day to taking some level of action that will allow you to move forward towards your goals.
As a coach, I often hear people say that life is not going according to plan, but when I ask to see their plan, 99.9% of the time they don’t have one.
Failing to plan is planning to fail!
If you don’t have your own goals and desires, you’ll end up being part of someone else’s and they have very little planned for you. So start today, take action, get planning and start building a life that you can look back on in 50 years time and say WOW! Not, oh well.
